A Red Downtown
2/6/09 - A RED DOWNTOWN - Just got in from running some errands around downtown on foot, and noticed a large number of people I passed were wearing red, or had little red ribbons or banners on. Why? Because today is American Heart Association's Go Red for Women day! It's great to see how many people are actually taking part in it. It's still not too late to go Red with your wardrobe! Whether it's a red dress, a red T-shirt, a red dress pin or red lipstick, show the world you support Go Red For Women, the American Heart Association's movement to help save women's lives.

I love the support by wearing red for women....but why only women? Last I checked, heart disease was a leading killer for men also...I hate the singling out when all are affected.

Mike, Thanks for reminding all your readers about the holiday. I didn't understand why the focus on women either. Here's what I learned by being on the Go Red team: Years ago, the movement was called Go Red for Women because most people- men and women - didn't realize that heart problems are far and away the biggest killer of women. They created National Wear Red Day so that men and women could show their support for the importance of heart health.
