In collaboration with the Black Rock Arts Foundation and the Black Rock Design Institute, the Museum welcomes Candy Chang to Reno to present her project Before I Die. Candy Chang is an artist, designer, urban planner, and wanderer who explores making cities more comfortable and contemplative places. She is a TED Senior Fellow, an Urban Innovation Fellow, and was named a "Live Your Best Life" Local Hero by Oprah Magazine. By combining street art with urban planning, social activism, and philosophy, she has been recognized as a leader in developing new strategies for the design of our cities.

Spring Wings Bird Festival is an annual celebration of shorebird and waterfowl migration through the Lahontan Valley. Our mission is to encourage growth of this educational event, promote interest in and awareness of the Lahontan Valley Wetlands.

The Lahontan Valley Wetlands are recognized as a site of international importance by the Western Hemispheric Shorebird Reserve Network, a ‘Globally Important Bird Area’ by the American Bird Conservancy, and an ‘Important Bird Area’ by the Audubon Society.

The Spring Wings Festival introduces the connection between all aspects of the Lahontan Valley: habitat, wildlife, history, humans, and how the community works together to protect and preserve natural resources.

Mandy Lion was raised in Germany and has been in the business of rock n' roll since the age of 11. Mandy, formed WWIII when he was 16 years old and began performing in the world famous music venues on Hollywood's Sunset Strip, including Gazzari's where WWIII broke Van Halen's long standing attendance record. Mandy Lion's amazing talent attracted the attention of Don Arden, the manager of Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Air Supply and many more top level acts. Mandy Lion's WWIII opened for major groups including Iron Maiden: these events quickly lead to Mandy's WWIII becoming a headlining super group. Mandy has performed with iconic musicians since a very young age including George Lynch (Dokken), James Kottack (Scorpions), Jimmy Bain (Rainbow/Dio), Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath), Joe Floyd (Warrior), Mikkey Dee (Motorhead), Tracy G (Dio), Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne), and many more. Mandy also headlined a show with Gilbey Clarke (Guns n' Roses) at Club Vodka in 2005. Mandy Lion is truly a Metal God, often referred to as "The Beast" his career accomplishments attest to this fact.

Mandy has an incredible vocal range and a unique voice. He is the creator of the extreme power vocal which many rock singers try to emulate but just can't seem to pull off. There is a lot more to Mandy than being an incredible rock n' roller. For the past several years the man has been an activist speaking out against the abuse of animals and placing homeless, unloved animals in loving homes. Mandy is currently writing a book about the misconceptions people have applied to the majority of warrior canine breeds. The book is certainly destined to become a Bestseller!

In addition to all of this, Mandy Lion is now contributing his time and efforts to help our Veterans that are returning home from active duty. Our Veteran's are in need of many things; proper housing, education, and job placement, these are only a few of the hardships our Veteran's face and require assistance with.

Local educators are invited to a special reception featuring Edward Burtynsky - Oil. Join Charles N. Mathewson Curator of Education Colin M. Robertson for an introduction to Burtynsky's renowned contemporary photographs chronicling the production, distribution, and use of oil. In addition to revealing the rarely seen mechanics of its manufacture, Burtynsky's photographs highlight the effects of oil on our lives, depicting landscapes altered by its extraction from the Earth and by the sprawl generated around its use.
Light refreshments will be served and registered participants will receive materials for use in the classroom. Please note, classroom resources will be designed for K-6th grade, though may be adapted for other grades.

The West Shore Café is pleased to announce their second annual cocktail contest where participants are challenged to submit and help select the best recipe for the West Shore Café’s new signature Moonlight Mojito cocktail.

Recipe submissions for the cocktail contest are now live on the West Shore Café & Inn website where participants are welcome to submit their favorite mojito recipes for consideration until Tuesday, June 5.

The top ten recipe submissions will be tasted, sipped, and scrutinized by attendees at the cocktail contest held at the West Shore Café. Guests will purchase a voting and drink ticket ballot which will allow them to cast their vote for their favorite mojito entry.

The winning recipe will be declared the West Shore Café & Inn’s signature summer mojito, or the “Moonlight Mojito.”

During live performances, Dia plays percussion instruments, such as the cowbell and tambourine, and occasionally a Casio Privia keyboard. She almost always performs without shoes on.

Dia was a contestant (and eventual runner-up) on the first season of The Voice on NBC, introduced as a children's story author. She was selected to be on the team of coach Blake Shelton, who stated, "when I heard your voice, I started to smile." Dia advanced through the show's quarter-finals and semi-finales after renditions of "Heartless" and "Losing My Religion". In the season finale, she sang "Inventing Shadows", an original song written by Fraser T. Smith.
As of July 7, 2011 Dia's The Voice digital releases have sold 480,000 downloads.
