Brickhouse Bakery - West Street Market
Welcome to my second home! Brickhouse Bakery is THE bakery in town. Whether tourist or resident, you must come down and have a coffee and pastry baked fresh every morning.
Brickhouse Bakery is located in West Street Market, but is accessible from West Street, right next to West Street Wine Bar.
Brickhouse has an urban feel to it, with exposed brick and corrugated steel as walls. Don't let the industrial look fool you though, because out of their ovens comes incredible home made goodness from owner Chris Tisdale.
Brickhouse Bakery offers up cakes, pies, quiche, breads, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, bagels, beignets, sandwiches, and coffee to the downtown community.
Using a long time family recipe, they bake some of the most amazing peanut butter and butterscotch cookies ever. The white chocolate cookies are yummy too. “Home Made” cookies. They also offer multiple variations of cupcakes, muffins, quiche, and bagels. They provide fresh brewed coffee from a roaster located in Billings Montana. Brick House Bakery is the only location in the Truckee Meadows to offer this brand of coffee.

I've only been here once right after they first opened, but I have to wonder if anyone else had an experience similar to mine. Mike seems to heap praise on this place, but I was hugely disappointed. The black and white cookie I had tasted like a store bought sugar cookie w/ a thin layer of sweet, but somewhat bland icing on top. Good, but not great. The pumpkin muffin I ordered tasted dry and very grainy (like a week old bran muffin) with a wet, mushy topping very much akin to baby food piled on top. I also wish the selection was better. On the positive side, there service is friendly and efficient. I'll give them one more try....hopefully they've improved since opening. I will give them another try, but in this economy you really have to be on your game to make it. I've had vastly superior baked goods at Smith's/Raley's/Savemart.
