I'll be honest with ya: Men Wielding Fire didn't impress me as far as food is concerned. I've had their catered stuff before, which was fine for catered food, but they really ought to invest in a true smoker or a slow wood-fired cooker if they want to be barbecue. If I don't smell smoke when I enter a barbecue joint, there's something amiss. Reno has suffered a long time of a poor barbecue scene--with the Rib Cookoff in Sparks, perhaps we feel we don't need to try. Men Wielding Fire has a great atmosphere, employees and a neat little bar. I hope the food gets better as they settle in. I'll get back to you later on a future visit!

I ate at Men Wielding Fire on Saturday, 4/9/2011 and had the Lamb double burger with fries. It was great, easily the best burger Ive had in a while.

While it is true, no one likes me, I dare someone who knows what barbecue is to go in MWF and tell me it's honest-to-goodness barbecue!

Whoah! First of all, I like Kyle, and he has one of the most unique blogs in Reno. Second, everyone is entitled to an opinion. I will not tolerate commenters trashing other commenters, so I edited your comment. Thats my policy...the last thing I want is to lose a reader because another one trashed them. Wikipedia defines BBQ as method and apparatus for cooking meat or poultry with the heat and hot smoke of a fire, smoking wood, or hot coals of charcoal, cooking gas or even electricity.

Oh, I can handle a comment or two, Mike, I've been doing this long enough... Heheheh--thank you, though. You're a good guy. Well *MY* definition of barbecue/BBQ et al is slow-cooking of meat at lower temperatures via smoke, be it indirect or direct, and of course fueled exclusively by fire! Everything else is grilling! What MWF does is grilling to this former cook, food dude and cross-country traveler named Kyle Weiss. :)

Yep, most don’t know the difference between BBQ and grilling. Head to the Reno Rib Cook-off on Labor Day weekend for an education.

I've got to agree with Kyle. The service and atmosphere is great but the menu leaves a little to be desired as far as someone looking to eat BBQ. Both my brother and I agreed that they should offer some a la carte BBQ items so you could sample what they've got. It's not Stubbs in Austin TX but they're trying. On a plus their sauce was really good! I'm new to Reno and haven't been out a lot but the best BBQ I've found has been at Kinder Meats? on California Ave.
Men Wielding Fire
Men Wielding Fire is located at 180 East First Street, in La Famiglia's former location. It's located near the Reno Aces Ballpark and the Siena Hotel and Casino.
Men Wielding Fire features a black and red styled decor with a comfortable interior. It might not be the 'warmest' interior in terms of color and decor, but hey it's Men Wielding Fire! The decor reflects that with corrugated metal steel and lots of chrome in the interior.
Men Wielding Fire has an expansive menu ranging and includes appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, steaks and specialties.
