JB Mapes & Co opens in Palladio, Men Wielding Fire Opens Soon

by Mike Van Houten / Nov 29, 2010

- The bistro JB Mapes and Co is now open in the Palladio for lunch and dinner. I haven't been able to track down a web site or Facebook page yet.
UPDATE: The owner, Beatrice Hamilton, also owns Be Abundant Home Decor downtown around the corner from the new restaurant. The restaurant features an open kitchen. Meals are prepared in an open kitchen. There's also a boutique with kitchen items and gifts, and a pastry case.

Men Wielding Fire has their new sign up. I'm excited to try out both places soon!

Just got home from trying JB Mapes and I'll definitely be back. Same owner as Be Abundant, with a retail section featuring similarly themed items (everything in the restaurant's decor is available to purchase). Prix fixe @ $20 -- rocket salad w/ ricotta and radishes, chicken picatta, and chocolate mousse. Excellent and affordable wine list. Well presented, not too heavy on the portions, and the quality was good. A few new-restaurant-hiccups -- they need to get their French pronunciation down on things like 'prix fixe' and 'cornichon' and the lighting was a bit bright, but nothing serious. Definitely worth it!

Saw their sign on the sidewalk and decided to stop in. Pleasantly surprised, had the pasta special.

Its great to see people supporting new business downtown...especially a restaurant in this economy. I hope to see you all soon @ JB Mapes & Co; as I plan to visit as a guest chef. In the meantime; congrats to Beatrice and the amazing talent she has working in that kitchen!

Also apparently coming to the area - in the last week or so a sign has gone up in the window at W. 2d and Sierra announcing a new Thai restaurant opening soon. The space, next to the West Second St. Bar, was vacant for a long time, then open for just a short while as Gringo's Mexican restaurant. I don't know anything else about the new place (ownership, experience etc.), just what's on the sign.
