BREAKING NEWS: Redevelopment Agency news

7/27/09 - UPDATE 3:31 p.m. - According to an official City of Reno press release,

'The Reno Redevelopment Agency and the Community Development Department, both hit hard by the economy, will combine under one manager. Long-time community development director John Hester will oversee the new unit. The change will be effective August 3, 2009. With a 50% reduction in Community Development personnel due to reduced development activity in the community, and a total of 6.5 full-time employees in the Redevelopment Agency, City Manager Donna Dreska says combining the two departments will create efficiencies during this difficult economic period. '

UPDATE 12:50 p.m. - Other sources are telling me the agencies aren't merging, but John Hester is taking over Mark Lewis's duties, and the city manager did it to save money. Stay tuned....

Two sources confirmed to me that Redevelopment Agency is going to merge with Community Development department, and Mark Lewis was let go as of yesterday. I'm also told this decision was made without the knowledge of the mayor, Dwight Dortch, Pierre Hascheff, or Dan Gustin. Stay tuned for more info.

Maybe they found out about his "creative figures" that he has been using for the various projects including the Baseball Satdium. He's been under scrutiny ever since Mcneely left.
