Where: Hug High School Little Theater - 2880 Sutro, Reno
Just ended its run in New York. “… is a tragedy in the classic form and I think it is a modern classic…the central character is a long-shore man who, though his mind is limited and he cannot find words for his thoughts, is an admirable man…When two of his wife’s Italian cousins are smuggled into this country, he makes room for them in his home. Gratefully they move in among his wife, his children and the teen-age niece whom he has brought up and whom he has come to love, he thinks, as a daughter. And now the stage is set for tragedy. One of the illegal immigrants falls in love with his benefactor’s niece. If he marries the girl he will no longer have to hide from immigration officials. A monstrous change creeps up on the kind and loving uncle. He is violently opposed to this romance and is not intelligent enough to realize that this opposition is not motivated, as he thinks, by a dislike of the boy and a suspicion that he is too pretty to be a man, but by his own too intense love for his niece. Not even the wise and kindly neighborhood lawyer can persuade him to let the girl go. This is an intensely absorbing drama, sure of itself every step of the way. It makes no false moves, wastes no time and has the beauty that comes from directness and simplicity.” “Even more than with “Death of a Salesman,” Miller used “Bridge” to sell his theory that true tragic heroes may well emerge from the common run of contemporary lives. So eager was he to make the point that he even included a one-man Greek chorus, an Italian-born lawyer named Alfieri. Without your being entirely aware of it, you have been ushered to exactly where Miller wants you to be: the realm of classical tragedy. You realize that these characters not only belong in this world at this moment, but that on some level they always have.”

Arts and CulturePsycho Beach Party: Vampire Lesbians of Sodom

When: 10/8/2010 - 10/9/2010 - 8:00 PM - Friday & Saturday Arts and Culture
Where: Bruka Theater - 99 North Virginia Street, Reno
A two act play. You do not want to miss this show! Check out a portion of the review of the New York production:
"Busch's "Psycho Beach Party" is a comic trash compactor of a play that takes an already silly genre - early 1980's surf and beach blanket movies - and sends it to camp heaven.
Created by the writer-performer and his Theater-in-Limbo company who brought us "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom," Mr. Busch's new play fits squarely in the same mold of hectic drag comedy. "Psycho Beach Party" carries its amusing plot premise of a Gidget-like protagonist with a Jekyll-Hyde split personality through a dozen swift hairpin turns without losing its basic thread.
Mr. Busch brings an aura of cheerful, poker-faced clownishness to the role of Chicklet Forrest, a demure teen-age girl with a flat chest and a maniacal alter ego. When Chicklet's submerged psyche, Ann, announces herself, the stage lights flicker, Mr. Busch dazedly bats his eyes, and the simpering Chicklet metamorphoses into a voracious camp dragon dispensing commands in a Tallulah Bankhead basso profundo. Chicklet's dream is simply to have her own surfboard. The monstrous Ann wants nothing less than to be come "dominatrix empress of the planet Earth."
The play gleefully defies logic as it subverts clean-cut Hollywood stereotypes"

Where: Eldorado - 345 North Virginia Street, Reno
It's a festival frenzy of Italian food, music and fun at The Eldorado Great Italian Festival, Saturday and Sunday, October 9 & 10. The 29th annual festival features the sights, sounds and tastes of Italy all day Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm on Virginia Street in front of the Eldorado Hotel Casino.
The party hits the streets on Saturday as the 29th Annual Great Italian Festival kicks off! One of the most anticipated events of the year, the main feature of the Festival is the authentic homemade Italian cuisine. This year's menu consists of both traditional Italian dishes and Italian favorites with contemporary flair. Six different booths will feature everything from ravioli, lasagna, risotto, Italian pizzas and polenta. For those looking for a new Italian dish, try the New York Steak Flatbread or the Garlic Parmesano fries. No meal would be complete without dessert! Stop by the homemade Gelato booth or grab a piece of melt-in-your-mouth tiramisu.
This is also the chance for Italian families across the West Coast to compete in the highly anticipated Great Italian Festival Sauce Cookoff! Hailing from Lombardia, Puglia, Sicily and so many more, each family has a "secret recipe" for sauce that guests can sample for themselves! Pasta bowls are available at 2pm each day, but careful, they go fast!
Free live entertainment adds to the fresh air and Italian faire, with Festival favorites like Ray Massa and the EuroRythms, Moreno Fruzzetti, Pasquale Esposito and Dick Contino, the legendary virtuoso of the accordion. The ladies of Tre Bella will also be heating up the stage with everything from their new hit dance track to pop, R&B and the Italian classics. A new, young face with a booming, Sinatra-esque voice will also wow the crowds. Mitch Franco may only be 16 but boy this kid can sing!

Special EventsGreat Eldorado Italian Festival

When: 10/9/2010 - 10/10/2010 - 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM - Saturday & Sunday Special Events

The second concert, Keyboard Fantasies, features three virtuoso pianists: two are the composers, Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 – 1943) and Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827), while the third piano “phenom” is Marc Yu, our soloist for the occasion, who will perform Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto. Like Beethoven, Marc began performing piano recitals at age six. At age 11 today, Marc is a rising star in the musical world with countless solo recitals and TV appearances, including the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Oprah, and the Ellen DeGeneres Show, to his credit. By age six, he had been the focus of print media worldwide including feature cover stories for both the L.A. Times and The New York Times Magazine. At age seven, he inaugurated Steinway & Sons' Historical Piano Tour, performing on Vladimir Horowitz's piano. He is the youngest ever recipient of the prestigious Davidson Institute Fellowship Award. After intermission, listeners will be swept away by the warm harmonies and passionate melodies of Rachmaninoff’s glorious Symphony No. 2 — a work that was an immediate triumph at its 1908 premiere and as a result gave the pianist composer the confidence to continue writing for orchestra.
