Westlyn/Ross Manor renovation moves forward with large fire suppression install

by Mike Van Houten / Mar 28, 2024

I received a lot of questions and correspondence regarding 118 West Street downtown, currently known as Westlyn Apartments, previously known as Ross Manor. For a while now, the property has been boarded up, without a lot of exterior signs of work being done. Many were concerned the building would be torn down, rumors swirled, even a rumor that Jacobs Entertainment had bought it and planned to tear it down.

There's a permit to convert the efficiency units into real apartments, which you can find here

There's some forward momentum finally at least on paper, for a new fire supression system, which may not sound like much, but it's for the entire building, and the permit value is $349,000. The permit reads

COMMERCIAL FIRE SPRINKLER. A NEW WET FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM TO BE INSTALLED IN AN EXISTING APARTMENT BUILDING THAT IS BEING FULLY RENOVATED.

So rest easy, the building is not being demolished, and is infact being remodeled into somethign far more usable than the previous apartments.
