New Bus Stations and RAPID Route Open Today

by Mike Van Houten / May 15, 2012

The big switch happens today! The new bus stations on Center/Virginia and Center/Liberty open today, and the northbound RAPID route switches to Center Street. In addition, you may notice a few stops changing positions, for example the bus stop in front of Wild Orchid just south of California Avenue has now moved north a bit to just south of the BofA tower. The $6 million transit investment was made possible with federal funding.

I was surprised though not find a word about it on RTC Washoe's web site. You'd think it would warrant a little news release or something.

From what I understand, the RTC's marketing/PR department was pretty much eliminated by budget cuts. So no website updates for us :(

I'm really happy with how these rapid stations are turning out. They provide a real sense of aesthetic unity through the Virginia Street corridor, and they function as a very visible commitment to public infrastructure on behalf of the RTC. Very nicely designed as well!
