CommRow construction

by Mike Van Houten / Aug 7, 2011

Construction of CommRow's speed climbing wall is visible in the photos below. Another piece has been added to the vertical wall as well. The speed climbing wall is intended to have a smoother surface than the other sections due to the nature of speed climbing.

To get an idea of what a slalom speed climbing wall looks like check out the photo below from a speed climbing competition in Singapore.

Looks good! Have some concerns though about the supports for the deck breaking through the marquee like that. Hopefully it won't stay that way? Is the sign being removed?

I thin they'll get to the marquees (& paint job on the outside) after good progress has been made on the climbing wall. Also we don't know what's going on inside the building. Can't imagine they will leave the marquees on the building as-is...

An interesting article in today's Tampa (FL) Tribune highlights CommRow in connection with Reno's tourism scene in general. I don't know how reliable it is, but the article says CommRow is scheduled to open Sept. 21.

There was a RGJ article that the old Fitz garage had been approved by a bank. That transaction is so complicated my head hurts. Is Comm Row going to open it up again?

No, the marquees will definitely not stay as is. But don't expect too many exterior changes beyond new lights, marquees. The primary focus is on the interiors, but even though the exterior isn't changing all that much, the renovations that will be done will be impressive. But don't worry, new marquees are on the way.
