Great name, That was my first choice.

So glad they went with Aces. I was afraid they would do the "rattlers" thing to go along with the Major league club and I would never get my wife near the stadium

Wow, what an absolutely lame name for our baseball team. I wonder if the baseball organizers realize that this is a AAA ball club and not some semi-pro team that plays at Moana.

I think it's a decent name. It's not as creative as Albuquerque Isotopes or Vegas '51's but it will do. Side note-- it's amazing how negative some local people are about the team and park on the RGJ.com comments sections. It's as if someone is forcing them to go and pay for the games next season! I guess people just like to b1tch.

PaulC, the Merriam-Webster entry for "ace" includes: "a person who excels at something" and "the best pitcher on a baseball team," both of which seem pretty flattering. If you also consider the reputation of Reno as a gaming destination, "Aces" seems an entirely appropriate and solid name for a minor league team based in said city. What was your preference, out of curiosity? Why is "Aces," a name that describes the essence of professionalism and skill, "lame" in your mind?

I like it. It has both a baseball connotation and a localized gaming connotation (without being overly cheesy). They have a diamond in the logo but that's the only clue that the name is inspired by gaming and even then, a diamond is part of baseball. I mean, it could be more original but there's a point where originality just becomes too esoteric (i.e. The Reno Chukars or the WAY worse Las Vegas 51's who got their name from Area 51). As long as they don't make the mascot a deck of cards or something I love it.

I think the name is just fine. I'm enjoying this thing come together. They very briefly showed new stadium drawings last night on the Channel 2 news. Any chance of getting the new pics posted?

MarkW- I do know what an Ace is but thanks for the definition. Don't you think that Reno Aces sounds like a traveling softball team? I think it does and it definitely isn't an original name. Too bad Golden Baseball owns the rights to the Silver Sox now. I like that name as it evokes our past as well as baseball. Aces is a very flat and boring name. I don't think the Reno Rattlers is a great name but it keeps with the theme of the Arizona Diamondbacks pro squad. I'm going to throw out the names of the Diamondbacks affiliates. Let me know how the Reno club stacks up especially when all of the clubs are an animal or tree. Tucson Sidewinders (AAA, soon to be the Reno Aces) Mobile BayBears (AA) Visalia Oaks (A) South Bend Silver Hawks (A) Yakima Bears (A) Missoula Osprey (Rookie League) I personally think something that would sound good would be the Reno Sage Grouse. It is similar to the other affiliates and is something that you don't think of every day. It's better than the Reno Aces.

I still think they should have gone with the Tucson Sidewinders of Reno.
