777 Center Update

by Mike Van Houten / Jun 10, 2015

The transformation of 777 Center from its former incarnation as a music store is stunning. I would get an office here in a heartbeat. Below you can see they are starting to build the deck feature. I love the varying window sizes, and it seems like each space is unique.

What an improvement! It's great to see a developer in the area go with a quality architect like Jack Hawkins. The only potential problem I see with this is how the sun loves to leach the color out of stucco here in Northern Nevada. The Stremmel Gallery often goes through long stretches between paint jobs where it looks faded out and cheap. The NMA also has that problem with their south-facing wall on California St. from time to time, though they do a much better job at managing their property than the Stremmels. It will be interesting to see how 777 Center handles this.

Ran past this a couple days ago. It looks great. That area is going to be fantastic once this is and Sticks are finished and occupied. Keep it up!

Once they're full. Here's a silly thought, what's the expected rent, is too high? Also, is there ever a "critical mass" of eateries/retail out there? I often wonder how a new place will survive because I worry there is a finite amount of expendable income the community has. I mean, in my own experience, I can only spend my money at a few spots a month. I worry that retail rent, along with the finite amount of expendable income, that this could deter any new businesses attempting to start up in the area (if every cheap option is taken). Hopefully these buildings will be occupied, I just wonder sometimes.

At some point there can be oversaturation, for sure. But I feel like all this development will bring more people to live, work, and play in the midtown area which will help the businesses there and hurt the tacky chain restaurants elsewhere in town
