Siegel Pulls Construction Permit for Virginian

by Mike Van Houten / Jul 2, 2015

Speaking of construction permits for former hotel/casinos, Siegel Group has pulled a demo permit for interior walls, flooring and ceiling of the former Virginian Casino located next to City Hall downtown on Virginia Street. Not sure what they have planned but it sounds like it might be more than just kitchenettes. The permits states the name of the project as 'Siegel Suites Virginian.'

I think this is a baaaaad idea. The idea of east 4th st motels going high rise in downtown is not my idea of redevelopment. Siegel group is doing just that. Its no more then lipstick on a pig. I hope city council holds there feet to the fire and demands a quality project. But i doubt it can.

I've seen little progress on the Sierra Tap House building. They tore down awnings off the El Cortez - yippee. But where is the real neighborhood improving redevelopment? Siegel Group is a lot of talk. Not impressed.

Siegel has great vision for Downtown Reno. And not one of high rise seedy motels, patience everyone....

One high rise weekly is already in downtown. I hope their not painting the Virginian those blue and yellow clown colors they seem to be so fond of. There cheap looking paints, like what we used in art class in elemenrty school. Siegel suites@ 2nd and west st demonstrates this handywork.

Matt - you know this how? Are you connected with the project?

I've seen some of the Siegel properties in Las Vegas. They are rundown and tacky. I'm afraid they will be no better in Reno.
