Downtown Update - Starbucks, Woolworths, Whitney and More

by Mike Van Houten / Dec 18, 2014

My downtown walks these days, have turned into downtown runs as I up my game in the fitness department of life. I take my dog Hans with me, a German Shepherd, and it's a great way for him to burn off some morning energy. On my run this morning, I ran across several noteworthy items, below.

Starbucks - Moving!

The new Starbucks at 1 East Liberty on the corner of Liberty and Virginia Street opens tomorrow. The previous location on Cal Ave and Virginia is now closed. I dig the new building's wood paneling and '60s-style sloped roof. The new Starbucks has a drive-thru, updated brewing system, and expanded menu selection.

New Bowling Alley Has a Sign

The Shelter, bowling, bar and grill, has a new little sign above the doorway where active construction work is going on. This is located in the 'Woolworths Building' as locals call it, on the corner of Virginia and First downtown. This will be a basement level bowling alley, bar and grill.

Lookin' Good, Whitney Peak

Whether you are a lover, hater, or neutral about Whitney Peak Hotel, you have to admit lately it's looking really good. I'm a big fan of the now-completed product, have seen a couple amazing shows at Cargo and the light show is off the hook, and the exterior of the building is the best it has looked since Fitzgerald's first opened.

Some Kind of Work Happening at Vino's Old Space on Sierra

Interesting, hmmm?

Just had breakfast at Heritage on a whim on Wednesday and it was so good! Love what the inside looks like and of course the omelet was top notch!
