Connecting with Nature in an Urban Environment
Here in Reno, we often don't look toward our neighbors in the South for great redevelopment ideas...not that Vegas is a bad influence, it's just, that city is headed in a different direction than Reno.
But here's one project out of Las Vegas that I hope Reno emulates. Check it out, and attend Las Vegas Parklett Friday at noon at Nevada Museum of Art.

Siegel Pulls Construction Permit for Virginian
Speaking of construction permits for former hotel/casinos, Siegel Group has pulled a demo permit for interior walls, flooring and ceiling. Not sure what they have planned but it shounds like it might be more than just kitchenettes.

A company called Urbanito LLC, of whom Pamela Haberman is listed as an officer of Haberae fame, just snatched up 400/490 Mill Street, the run-down commercial buildings with a lot of potential and a suite of old homes, from Ryder Homes.
17 Jun 2015El Cortez Rooftop Sign to Change, Add Street Level Signs
Historic Resources Commission meeting:
1. YESCO lighting is working on a 'modified' version of the rooftop El Cortez sign that will read 'Siegel's El Cortez' and be green, according to renderings presented.
2. Retail street-level signage will be similar to the old historic retail signs. Retail tenants at the El Cortez weren't fond of the font proposed, and the HRC proposed several fonts that would work better, and Siegel Group is supposed to make some modifications.
3. Graffiti will be removed from Stewart Park rock wall, how is not yet to be determined.

The "Jack Bacon" building, located at 516 South Virginia, the terminus of California Avenue at Virginia Street, has been purchased by the former owners of Little House On Center Street, Alex and Esmeralda Long, and will become a restaurant with a focus on seafood, hopefully by August 1st.
